Exchange programs at the Departments of Mathematics and Data Science
This page is a collection of the most important information. If you have any further questions, please contact the program coordinator by e-mail or come to their office hours.
The European Commission funds stays abroad through the Erasmus+ exchange program. Any student enrolled in Erlangen can apply for a student mobility grant for a study or internship stay. In particular, students without a European passport can also apply (it is important, however, that you do not lose your residence permit in Germany during your stay abroad). For a guest stay at a particular university, however, it is necessary that the department concerned has signed a cooperation agreement with that of your university. The cooperation agreements are managed by the program coordinators. These agreements regulate a large part of the administrative problems and allow you to organize your stay abroad relatively easily and have the academic achievements you have made abroad recognized here. There is also a scholarship (approx. 500 euros per month in the last few years). Please note that different language levels are required depending on the destination university.
The Departments of Mathematics and Data Science have cooperation agreements with the following partner universities:
Rennes 1 (F)
Florenz (I)
Zaragoza (E)
University of Southern Denmark, Odense (DK)
Santander (E)
Tampere (Fi)
Herakleon (Gr)
Stockholm (S)
TU Prag (Cz)
Timisora (Ro)
Tromsø (N)
Palermo (I)

- This website also lists how many exchange places are available for each of them.In addition to the Erasmus exchange program, there are many university-wide scholarships for other study visits, e.g. to Latin American universities. Please contact the S-International Office directly for further information.
- In order to ensure that your academic achievements abroad are recognized (to the extent of 20 ECTS if you are on leave of absence), it is advisable to talk to me and the lecturers in the relevant subject before you leave.
- Here you can find general information from FAU about the Erasmus+ program, see also the following RIA information events.
Application: By e-mail with a short letter of motivation (should include a list of 3 partner universities in order of preference), CV and campo transcript of records by mid-December for a stay in the following academic year. Selection will be based on grade point average, subject to availability. If you have any further questions, please contact the program coordinator.
Important: If you are nominated, the recognition of ECTS credits earned abroad will need to be discussed. It is particularly important to plan this in advance. You should therefore look up the module descriptions of the courses you plan to take at the partner university and then discuss with the program representative how you want to include these ECTS credits in your studies. This will then be entered in the Learning Agreement and (if approved) signed by your examination board chairperson.
If you have any criticism of the selection or the recognition process, please contact the spokesperson of the department, here.
